Adolescent Therapy
Adolescence is a time of significant emotional, psychological, and physical change. As young people navigate increasing independence, evolving relationships, questions about identity, and the challenges of growing up, they can sometimes experience difficulties that feel overwhelming or confusing.
I try to create a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space in which adolescents can explore their thoughts, feelings, relationships, and experiences. Through regular sessions, young people are supported to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their feelings.
My core training is psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This means that I try to understand the underlying emotional experiences that may be contributing to difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, emotional distress, relationship challenges, school-related concerns, self-esteem difficulties, trauma, or feelings of being stuck.
The therapeutic relationship that develops between myself and a young person plays a central role to the process. I hope for each young person to feel listened to, understood, and thought about, so that they can begin to make sense of their experiences, develop greater emotional resilience, develop healthy relationships and find new ways of managing life's challenges.
I also draw on other therapeutic approaches such as CBT and compassion-focussed therapy. See more details about these approaches in the more info tab.
Therapy is tailored to the individual young person and may involve talking, creating art, using instruments, sensory equipment or simply having a consistent space in which to think and be understood.
