Therapeutic Parenting

What is Therapeutic Parenting?

Therapeutic parenting is a nurturing, relationship-based approach that helps children feel safe, understood and emotionally supported. Rather than focusing solely on behaviour management, therapeutic parenting seeks to understand the meaning behind a child’s behaviour and respond in ways that build trust, emotional regulation and secure relationships over time. It involves meeting with parents/carers without the child present.

Caring for children with complex emotional needs can be emotionally demanding. Many parents and carers describe feeling exhausted, unsure how to respond, or worried that traditional parenting approaches are not helping.

Therapeutic parenting support provides a reflective and compassionate space to think about these challenges, helping carers feel more equipped and emotionally supported in their role.
